Slough of Despond

Today was forecast to be overcast, but fine, so we were completely caught out when it began raining, quite hard and wetly, part way through our riverside walk in Stratford. You know that thing people like to say about there being no such thing as bad weather? Not true.

However, in a world where everything (including but very much not limited to the weather) appears to have gone completely insane, and it’s easy to find yourself getting trapped in the Slough of Despond, it’s nice to see that good things do still happen. My only issue with the Oscars is that the winners are allowed to speak, when I wish so very wholeheartedly that they wouldn’t, but I find I can tolerate even this provided I keep the videos muted and never read any of the quotes.

I’m such a fan of Jessie Buckley that I even find myself marginally tempted by her current vehicle, The Bride! – even though I don’t much care for Christian Bale, dislike the Frankenstein concept, and have never understood the whole outlaw as hero thing (unless portrayed by Paul Newman and Robert Redford, obviously). Still though. It does look as if it might be quite good fun.
