It seems as though every time I get close to catching up with myself I make the mistake of taking my foot off the accelerator, either to let someone come and visit or to go out having fun, and the next time I look around I find that I’m falling behind again. One day I’ll maybe learn to portion out my time more appropriately – though to be honest it’s more likely that I won’t. Perhaps it would be better to admit my limitations and shed a few commitments – I’ll have to give the matter some thought, if I can ever find the time.

Anyway, today was a day I set aside for catching up on at least some of the backlog, and to be fair I did pretty well, but only by dint of almost taking root on my desk stool. I allowed myself a quick trot around the garden, because of course I did, but the temperature had dropped again, because of course it had, and the only invertebrates I could find without resorting to beating them out of their shelters were the chunkier bees – Common Carders and Hairy-footed Flower Bees, with bass harmony added by a Buff-tailed Bumblebee queen as she sailed majestically past. If by now you’re sick of the sight of Plumpies, please try to think of me kindly as I mourn the approaching end of their season: a couple of males showed up at the pulmonaria patch today, but they were shabby and grey, and they’re the first ones I’ve seen in nearly a week. It’s already hard to think myself back to a time when they were   – but then again, there’ve been quite a few days recently when I could easily have said the same about myself.
