Incompetence

Yesterday, on my way from the river to meet R for lunch at BTP, I nipped into White Stuff on Henley Street and bought a jumper in their January sale. Some time after we arrived home, I realised that I’d left my purchase, in an anonymous bag-for-life, on a chair in the café. This just about put the icing on what for me had been quite a trying day – especially as by this time it was too late for me to get back into Stratford before BTP closed, and repeated attempts to call them went straight through to their answering machine. I sent an apologetic email, told R (untruthfully) that I was confident everything would be fine, and slammed around in a temper for the rest of the day.

A positive reply to my email pinged in at 8am today, so later this morning R and I found ourselves back in Stratford again. On the plus side, the light was glorious – especially compared with the deep gloom of the past two days – and photography was easy. On the negative side, I was still grumpy and embarrassed with myself. I’d have liked to pretend that wandering out of the café without my belongings was some kind of old Yorkshire custom, designed to make sure I had a good reason to go back, but what it actually came down to was lack of organisation, and I’m very much not ready to accept that I might have become an incompetent person. I really need to sort my life out, and soon.
