Compared to other parts of the country we had it easy, but even here Storm Chandra made it a pretty vile day. Apart from a quick trip out to fulfil two essential errands and indulge in a coffee stop, we spent the day at home – in my case, listening to the rain lashing down on the conservatory roof for a couple of hours, as I ploughed on with the current jigsaw.
Because it definitely was not a day to be going looking for wildlife, I’d expected to have to post something from inside the house, but I was saved by this handsome male Great Spotted Woodpecker, who was feeding in the garden while I made my own breakfast. It was only when I saw my photos up close that I realised the peanut feeder needed cleaning, which is why I’ve cropped this so tightly, but I’ve now put everything to rights again.
