Blipfoto tells me that this is my 4,380th post, and after going through the usual kind of thought process: Twelve years?? Surely not!! That’s a lot of photos… and a LOT of words! No wonder I’m so tired all the time… I started to think about what might be an appropriate image to mark the day. It occurred to me that in the whole of those twelve years I’ve never shown my own face (I may have turned up in a few other folks’ blipmeet posts, but I’d have been the one skulking at the back with my hat pulled well down), and I decided it was probably time to ditch the anonymity and post a selfie.
So hello there! As you can probably tell, I’m a little out of my comfort zone in front of the camera, so the smile might be just a tad forced, but it’s nice to think that you’ll recognise me now, should we bump into each other while we’re out and about.
As ever, many thanks to those who came before and set up Blipfoto, to the Gang who stepped up and took it on when disaster threatened, and to the administrative team who do such a great job behind the scenes to keep things running smoothly. If the British Library are still archiving us as a significant social document, then thanks to them as well, because it’s very cool to be part of something like that. Thanks to everyone who reads my drivel and speaks of it generously, to friends on- and off-line, and especially to Richard, to whom I sold the idea of a daily photo project twelve years ago on the basis that it was a 365-day thing only, but who accepted two or three years later that it probably wasn’t going to be, and very rarely grumbles about the central role the thing has assumed in both of our lives. He’s still my go-to arbiter when I can’t decide which photo to use, my primary cheerleader, and the person who points out my typos. And a final flippant shout-out to my mother, who never saw this blog, but spent years telling me I should stop faffing around and do something with my photography, and would, I think, be pleased that for once in my life, albeit belatedly, I actually took her advice.
