Today was a bit of a curate’s egg.
On the plus side, I managed to get all the Saturday morning chores done – taking in the supermarket delivery, making yogurt and bread, and so on – quickly and without any unwelcome distractions. And this afternoon I spent a relaxing hour in Holy Trinity churchyard, where the Bird of the Day was this lovely sleek Nuthatch, who gave me several nice shots by pausing to scan the area for danger, before jumping down and helping itself to the handful of seed I’d tucked into an angle on the top of the monument. I love Nuthatches, but disappointingly we don’t seem to get them in the garden, so I’m always pleased to find one when I’m out and about.
On the down side I had my annual flu vaccination at lunch time, which has left me with a sore arm and feeling a bit mouldy. Worse than that though, while I was enjoying a mid-afternoon energy bar in the car I experienced a sudden and very unwelcome crunching sensation, and realised that one of my fillings had just disintegrated. Which would have been annoying, even if it hadn’t been the same one that was replaced last month. Needless to say, my dentist doesn’t work on a Saturday afternoon except in case of emergencies, and I can’t honestly describe this as that, but it’s uncomfortable, and worse still it’s interfering with my normal enthusiastic eating activities, and there’s every chance that by Monday morning I’m going to be very short-tempered indeed. And – breathe…
This evening R and I watched a couple of episodes of the second series of The Diplomat on Netflix. This is one of the most enjoyable things I’ve seen in years, and it took my mind off my discomforts (various) and brought the day to a satisfying close.
