Burnished

R and I had another long and quite tiring day, but the load was lightened by all the help and support we had from Child One, who swooped over the border early this morning and propped us up right through till dinner time. Once again we’re left feeling very lucky in our family.

This afternoon I managed twenty minutes in the garden, annoying various bugs, of which my favourite was this Green Shieldbug in its winter livery. I tapped it out of the dogwood, photographed it on some fallen Norway maple leaves, and then popped it back where it came from. I doubt that it will spend the winter on a bare, twiggy shrub though: they usually find a crevice in tree bark, or move to the ground and bury themselves in leaf litter, before entering winter diapause.
