In the interests of looking at something other than a Mute Swan or a Black-headed Gull, I went over to Hillers at Dunnington this morning, and spent an hour in the bird hide. Cutest of the day was this little Blue Tit, with its tiny, adorable crest half-raised as it calculated the potential threat from other birds approaching the feeders. I’ve also included a second photo of a Dunnock, because I think their creeping, fossicking habits tend to lead to them being under-rated.
The woodland glade outside the bird hide was very busy, but only with what you might call the usual suspects. My Merlin app picked up what it thought were a Brambling and a Siskin over the course of the hour – but though both were entirely credible, because I’ve already spotted them at Hillers this winter, today I didn’t personally see either.
