Oh no – sorry. It’s not The Reverend Robert Walker Skating on Duddingston Loch – it’s a Moorhen.
R and I were in Warwick again today, on the coldest morning of the winter so far. Afterwards we dropped down to Compton Verney, where we have membership of which we keep forgetting to take advantage, and spent a happy few minutes standing on the bridge, watching a large family of Moorhens expressing mild consternation about the unexpectedly solid surface of the lake. Though they were even more discombobulated when it suddenly turned back to water underneath them, as happened to the juvenile in my second photo.
After a pleasant lunch we wandered around the permanent art collection, which is small but very nicely formed, and I renewed my acquaintance with Mirza Abu’l Hassan Khan, which is my favourite portrait in the gallery.
