It’s not actually hard for a male Mute Swan to look disgruntled, but this cob was really putting some effort into it. I couldn’t decide if he’d spotted a neighbour with whom he had a bone to pick, or if he was just looking for someone to blame for the utterly foul weather, but either way his missus was keeping well out of the firing line, while looking like she expected to be having to write somebody yet another apology letter before the end of the day.

I was feeling somewhat triggered myself at this point, as I stood in what turned out to be the heaviest rain of the day, attempting to take photos with a large camera and lens while hanging on to a golf umbrella. Happily R came to the rescue – relieving me of the brolly for the duration of the shoot, and then polishing his Keeper credentials by buying me lunch.

This evening we’ve finished watching the silly but entertaining BBC mystery series Ludwig, which we both enjoyed. Should you be searching for this programme on the iPlayer, I recommend not mixing it up with the psychological thriller Luther, which is also entertaining, and definitely silly in places, but considerably less cosy.
