It rained, and it rained, and it rained, and it rained, and it rained, and it rained. And then rained, and rained, and rained. And then it rained some more.
After waiting for what felt like days for the rain to stop so I could go and play out, while scraping boring stuff off the festering end of my to-do list, I was pretty fed up. And by the time I finally accepted that it wasn’t actually going to stop raining, and started looking round for something to do that wasn’t tediously worthwhile, every single thing in the house felt like the same old same old.
Then I remembered the jigsaw that I took on holiday in the summer, which having barely been started was brought back home in its carrier, then stuffed under the sofa in the snug and forgotten. So I dragged it out, put it on the dining table – the conservatory being the only room in the house that still had a modicum of light – and set to work. In the matter of a photo, I’m grateful to R, who – knowing full well by this time what little treats are most likely to make a girl’s eyes light up – bought me a 28mm lens for birthday and Christmas.
Angela Harding’s linocut print jigsaws are slightly tricky, but they are fun, and I spent a happy couple of hours on this one before the light gave out completely. I can only hope that I didn’t leave any bits of it back in the Cotswold Water Park, because discovering that I had would be… annoying.
