This morning I had to go to the Farncombe Estate, on Fish Hill above Broadway, because this is where my hairdresser is currently based. Afterwards I swung down into the village, which provided me with a decent cup of coffee at Leaf & Bean, but neither the jacket I’d been hoping to find still on sale, after forcing myself to walk away from it in the run-up to Christmas, nor a photo that pleased me in any way.
So I went back up the hill and pulled in at the Broadway Tower, knowing that however gloomy the light – and by this time it was positively sepulchral – the Tower is always at least moderately photogenic. I’ve always liked the way the approach path passes under these trees, and I’ve posted it several times before – at dawn, at nightfall, and in the snow – but I think the view will bear a few more repetitions before I’m completely bored with it.
On a clear day they claim that you can see sixteen counties from the top of the Broadway Tower. Today you could barely see Broadway, nestled in the valley below.
