Impact

It was another horrible morning, and for several hours it looked likely that it would never stop raining, but at lunchtime the weather suddenly and unexpectedly cleared, so we rushed out into the chilly sunshine to enjoy it while we could. And it was just as well we did, because by the end of the afternoon it was raining again.

Honestly, I’m running out of things to say about Black-headed Gulls by this point, but at least today the bright sunshine gave me the chance to capture some slightly different shots. I especially like this touchdown because the glassy curve of the water splash is so satisfying – and also because the bird looks so neat. They not infrequently land by stalling just above the water and then face-planting right into it, but this little chap seems to have got its technique completely sorted out. I’m awarding it 5.9 for Technical Merit, and 6.0 for Artistic Interpretation.

This evening R and I watched a couple of episodes of Down Cemetery Road on AppleTV, which is very, very good. Emma Thompson is probably 20 years too old to be playing ZoĆ« Boehm, but nails the part anyway, and the rest of the ensemble cast is extremely strong. I shouldn’t rate it before the end, of course, but at this stage a couple of straight sixes are very much on the cards.
