Catkin

It was far too cold and dank today for invertebrates to be out and about – even the shieldbugs that were around on Monday have disappeared back into the ivy – but I was desperate to find some evidence of spring, so I squelched around the garden until I spotted these catkins. All we need now is a little warmth and they’ll burst open – and with luck there will be some bees and hoverflies browsing them for nectar.

This evening R and I have been to the cinema to see The Personal History of David Copperfield, which we both loved. Dev Patel is hugely likeable as David, though for me the film was stolen by the oldies: Hugh Laurie, Tilda Swinton and Peter Capaldi. If you haven’t already seen it, I recommend it to you.
