I bought a bunch of chrysanthemums the other day – they were pretty cheap, and I liked the strong colour mix of green, white and ox-blood red. As I was trimming them to go into a vase a small bloom broke off one of the green stems, so I just popped it in a little glass by itself and put it on the kitchen windowsill. This flower is about 2cm across.
The weather has been so miserable today that it’s felt like dusk since shortly after breakfast, and I decided that photographing something vibrant might lift my spirits. If I tell you that I took this in the middle of the day, by the French windows in the conservatory, and that I still needed a combination of ISO 1000, f/3.2 and 1/20 sec to get the shot, you’ll see that I wasn’t exaggerating about the light!
