In April 2016, as a “homework” task for Emma Davies’ year-long workshop A Year With My Camera, I entered four images into the International Garden Photographer of the Year Mono Project 10, and was delighted that this photo of the Orangery at Hanbury Hall was shortlisted and commended.

On 26th January 2022 two of my images appeared in an article in The Guardian, which had picked up on a challenge on Blipfoto highlighting the effects of climate change. The posts concerned are here and here.

In September 2024 I was delighted to receive 5 photo credits in the 3rd edition of Hoverflies of Britain and Ireland by Stewart Ball and Roger Morris.

This Cheilosia illustrata appears on page 65 (2 credits because the extracted face detail comes from the same image). The Merodon equestris below appears on page 249, and I’m also credited with the image of a Merodon equestris f. equestris on page 29.

Finally, my photo of a Rhingia rostrata (cropped and flipped to suit the page layout) appears on p.195.

As this is the most popular guide to British hoverflies, and I’d been using the previous edition ever since hoverflies first sparked my interest in macro photography, back in 2015, I was honoured to have been asked to contribute some images.

2025 Worcestershire Wildlife Trust calendar: Hairy-footed Flower Bee was the winner for April, and Banded Demoiselle was a runner-up in July.
