R and I went to Sheffield today, to see R’s aunt, whose birthday is at the weekend, and to take her a gift of an Aura frame from all her nieces and nephews. It was lovely to see both her and H, who drove down from Leeds to meet us for chatting, technical troubleshooting, and lunch. We had a slightly tense time getting the frame working on B’s wifi, but managed it in the end, and she seemed very pleased with it. I’m sure she’ll enjoy it even more as she and other members of the family add more photos to the slideshow. We had lunch at Mavi Rüya, the family-owned Turkish bar and grill on Abbeydale Road, which was excellent.
On a day of intense heat it was actually nice to spend five hours in an air-conditioned car, but by the time we made it back home at about 8.30pm we were both very tired, and I had a splitting headache. The temperature was still registering 32°C, so I dread to think how hot it might have been in the middle of the day. I’d only taken three photos so far today and didn’t much like any of them, so I wandered off around the garden in search of invertebrates, but it took a while to find one that would pose. This little Marmalade Fly was perched up in quite deep shade, and in the circumstances I could hardly blame her. Having grabbed a few images I retired to the kitchen, and sat for a while drinking iced white wine, while listening to our (resident!!) Tawny Owls calling down in the wild garden and in the orchard across the lane.
