Dilapidation

The weather improved again today, so R and I decided to go to Stratford for lunch. While he improved his step count by walking the long way round, I detoured over to the reed beds by Lucy’s Mill Bridge in search of dragons, and then cut back via the shortest available route to meet him at the cafĂ©.

The recent floods (which made this area impassable to foot traffic last week) have all but destroyed the reed beds, and it’s the wilting, discoloured foliage that gives this image its unusual background. It’s not the best focused of the two dozen or so shots I took of this same Migrant Hawker – the one I’ve just posted to my Facebook page is undoubtedly sharper – but it speaks to me of autumnal dilapidation, and that’s why I’ve chosen to feature it here.
